Lie Down and Listen:
Illumination
4 & 6 December
The Painted Hall, London

“Such a beautiful and unique experience in an amazing space”

Lie Down and Listen attendee

Lie Down and Listen returns this December to the Painted Hall with Illumination – a special edition of this experience.  You’ll be surrounded by baroque beauty juxtaposed with the striking Connection and Identity installation by Peter Walker.

As you walk into the space you’ll feel the illuminating sense of awe and as you lay down on soft mattresses. You’ll be guided into a meditative state and dreamscape carrying you to altered states as you feel the deep resonances of the Gong and Tibetan Bowl sound healing move through you. The heavenly sounds of harp will emerge in a live concert with harpist Camilla Pay who shares illuminating music by Max Richter, Phillip Glass and Einaudi.

Your guide is Zephyr Wildman - a Senior Yoga Teacher based in London since 2002. She’s an innovator in the art and science of yoga. Yoga is not only movement, but a way of life and in fact one of the earliest ‘yogas’ was the nada yoga – the yoga of listening.

This is what this session focuses on, guiding you into connecting with your inner self through deep listening, silence, sound and music.

You’ll leave feeling deeply rested and illuminated.

Meet Your Host: Christina McMaster

Classical pianist, sound healer and founder of Lie Down and Listen

“One of the most talked about concerts of our festival.” Alistair MacGowan, Artistic Director of Ludlow Piano Festival

“She is an incredibly sensitive intuitive player who brings out the mystery and beauty of these pieces”

Sarah Walker BBC Radio 3

Founder and Classical Pianist Christina McMaster noticed that it wasn't only the rituals of classical music concert halls that led to a disconnected listening experience, but in daily life, we are experiencing more disconnection than ever, leading to loneliness, anxiety, stress, sense of emptiness etc.

Lie down & Listen began after a chance meeting with Prof. Sir John Strang and a series of events at Kings College London to recreate the wellbeing benefits of a hallucinogenic experience without hallucinogenics- but simply using a certain combination of music in a lying down concert experience as they did in the 1960’s in downtown New York loft apartments where music of Philip Glass, Terry Riley, Steve Reich - also known as the New York Hypnotic School. After training in sound healing, Christina then evolved the meditation, sound healing and lying down concert experience of today which creates space for deep relaxation and for listeners to reconnect within.
